What You Need To Know About Buddhist Tourist Circuits in India at IRCTCBuddhistTrain.com
There are various tourist circuits in India and we at IRCTC try our best to cover most of them at affordable prices. Here we will specifically talk about the Buddhist Circuit in the country. The Buddhist Circuit refers to the places of high significance where Buddha was born and went on a journey towards attaining Enlightenment; spreading his teachings and leaving the world with grace.
Here is a brief overview of them and what you want to know.
1. Lumbini - Lumbini is located in southern Nepal and is a pilgrimage site where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Baby Siddhartha. This is where the Buddha performed his first miracle by walking his first seven steps as a child. A sacred garden, the beautiful Pakshami pond, and the Ashoka Pillar are the main attractions here.
2. Bodhgaya - He meditated under the Bodhi tree for 49 days and this is the site where he attained enlightenment. This is where his journey as 'The Enlightened One' began and it is located in the northeastern state of Bihar. The 7th-century Mahabodhi Buddha Temple Bodhgaya is also found here along with direct descendants of the Bodhi tree which stand as tall as 80 feet.
3. Sarnath - Buddha's first sermon was delivered in Sarnath and his teachings found his root there. It is an ancient city, about 10 km from Varanasi and Buddha's first disciplines were established here. The magnificent Dhamekha Stupa was erected by King Ashoka in Sarnath along with the Ashoka Pillar which later became the nation's proud symbol. The Sarnath Buddha Temple along with the archaeological museum and ancient Buddhist ruins dating back to 12th-century B.C. are covered in our Sarnath Buddhist Pilgrimage.
4. Kushinagar - Buddha departed the world after he fell ill at Kushinagar. King Ashoka preserved his mortal remains and distributed them through 84,000 stupas throughout the kingdom and beyond. The Parninirvana Stupa is found here and there is a beautiful lily pond next to the main shrine. Excavations dating back to more than 2,000 years ago and ancient artifacts are also housed at this site, thus making it a very popular tourist attraction.
