Experience Buddha's Life and His Miracles By Taking a Shravasti Buddhist Tour with IRCTCBuddhistTrain.com
At IRCTC, we offer you an opportunity to experience Buddha’s life and his miracles by taking a Shravasti Buddha tour. Shravasti is one of the eight pilgrimage sites where Gautama Buddha spent most of his monastic life. An ancient city located in the Gangetic plains of Northern India, Shravasti was believed to one of the largest cities in India during Buddha’s time.
When asked about his journey to enlightenment and self-realization, the Buddha mentioned to his disciplines to visit the places of his pilgrimage. Originally, it was four sites which were Lumbini, Bodh Gaya, Sarnath, and Kushinagar but there were other four sites which acquired special status, later on, being popularly referred to as the ‘Eight Great Places’ or Attha Mahathanani.
These four sacred sites are Sharvasti, Rajgir, Sankassa, and Vaishali.
Travel to Shravasti and Learn about Buddha’s Miracles
Shravasti is the city where the Buddha first stunned his non-believers by performing a million-fold manifestation of Himself. The site soon came to be known as the place of ‘Twin Miracles.’ According to Buddhist history, there were six evil heretics who were jealous of Buddha’s supernatural powers and challenged him to a contest. After persuading King Bimbisara, the Buddha accepted their challenge on the condition that he set the time and date.
The site was Shravasti and a hall was set up for the occasion. When the day arrived, Buddha emanated fire and water from his body, thus destroying the hall in the process. Following the next fifteen days, he performed miracles every day with his first being a bounteous tree that bloomed with flowers and ripe fruit the minute he planted it to the ground. On the eighth day, Buddha defeated his opponents by pressing the throne with the fingers of his right hand and summoning a flaming Vajrapani. Buddha later emanated eighty-four thousand rays of light from the pores of his skin which radiated into the sky. The tips of each ray revealed a Lotus with Buddha spreading his teachings to his attendants. The sight moved the heretics so much that they along with their followers adopted the doctrine of Buddhism and converted to monks.
